Dear Friends,

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Amina Robinson and I am honored to soon be taking up the mantle at Theatre Horizon to serve as Artistic Director. Although I do not officially assume the role until this coming November, I am looking forward to getting to know you: our patrons, supporters - the people who make it possible for our mighty theater company to thrive each year.

This coming season will look a bit different from seasons past. With great intentionality about our next steps, the decision was made to spend the year with artistic programming that cultivates a greater sense of community engagement. This decision provides a unique opportunity for me to get to know the community I am preparing to artistically serve, smoothly transition into the inner operations of the company, and prepare for the theatre to resume sustainable programming as we move forward. This decision was not arrived at lightly by Theatre Horizon leadership, but we know it will strengthen how we show up and produce our future work. We greatly appreciate your solidarity as we build upon the well-beloved traditions of Theatre Horizon and usher in another phase of dynamic entertainment and storytelling that reaches into the hearts of our community.

This season, we started a community choir which will perform a holiday concert alongside some favorite Theatre Horizon performers. In addition, our choir will visit community centers and nursing homes throughout the area, branching outside the walls of our building and bringing joy to our community-at-large. We will also have several special one-night-only engagements which will serve as opportunities for me to get to know you, for you to get to know me, and for us to engage in meaning dialogue through scaled performances and talkbacks. Lastly, we are bringing back our popular community project, currently untitled, where we join professional theatre makers with our Montgomery County members to create a piece of theater rooted in the voices that make us distinctly MontCo. In addition to this programming for the year, we will have Philadelphia Children’s Theater in residence, as they produce a full season of programming for families.

I am beyond thrilled to enmesh myself into the fabric of this company. It will be, for me, and for everyone joining us on this exhilarating new chapter, a glowing new future with much on the Horizon… pun intended.

With love,
